Remedial massage
Kerry assesses before she treats: how you move, and where the restriction sits, which is often not where you feel it. Then she works the muscles and attachments involved. This is the treatment most extras policies rebate through HICAPS.
Deep tissue
Slower, firmer pressure into the deeper layers of muscle. It suits tightness that has been there a long time and that a lighter massage skates over: shoulders that never let go, lower backs and hips that lock up after sitting or lifting.
Fascial release
Fascia is the connective tissue wrapping every muscle. When it stops gliding it can pull on things well away from the sore spot. Sustained, low-force holds give it time to let go, and you get range of movement back.
Trigger point
A trigger point is a tight band inside a muscle that refers pain somewhere else: a knot between the shoulder blades that turns up as a headache. Kerry holds pressure on the point until it releases, then stretches the muscle so it stays that way.
Hot stone
Kerry works smooth heated stones over the muscle. The warmth softens tissue faster than hands alone, so the work goes deep without the same pressure. It suits you if deep tissue feels too intense, and it suits a Mountains winter.
Pregnancy massage
You lie on your side, supported, at whatever stage you have been cleared for massage. Most people come for the load on the lower back and hips, and for sciatica. Paige’s review below describes that.
